The General Wildlife Law establishes the rules and
regulations for the conservation and harvest of wildlife in
Mexico, including hunting.
Based on this law, hunting is considered a
"sustainable extraction" use (art. 39 of the general Wildlife
Law) and is only permitted in ranches registered as management units for the conservation of wildlife (UMAS).
UMAS must have an approved management plan and must have the authorization
to harvest wildlife. Harvest quota).
For hunting purposes, art. 96 of the same law stipulates
that mexican citizens that desire to hunt and Mexican outfitters
must obtain a
permit to perform hunting activities in Mexico.
Foreign hunters that wish to hunt in Mexico must sign a
hunting contract with an authorized ranch owner or
outfitter, and hunt only on a registered UMA.
